Half of Fiji women turn down medical care for cancer

A new report from Fiji's Women's Rights Movement says up to fifty per cent of women diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer will not follow up with further medical care and treatment.

The agency says breast and cervical cancer are among the top five causes of death for women in Fiji.

The researchers say given these statistics, it became clear for the need to investigate the state of the country's cancer services, as well as the difficulties women face in trying to access treatment.

One of the researchers Laisa Bulatale, told Jenny Meyer about the report, titled 'Breaking the barriers: understanding cancer services, screening and treatment available for women in Fiji' that came from listening to women with cancer tell their stories.
