NZ-led Bougainville community police prepare for key vote

From , 6:04 am on 29 October 2018

Perhaps New Zealand's longest running aid project, the Bougainville Commmunity Policing Project is preparing to play a significant role as the region plans for a vote on independence next year.

The scheme has been in place for 15 years and it has trained several hundred Bougainvilleans to assist with policing in villages and rural areas.

Eleven New Zealand police officers are serving on Bougainville and the project leader, Inspector Steve Kose, told Don Wiseman about the programme.
