Regional police adapting to new cocaine smuggling routes

Successful disruption of cocaine smuggling across the Pacific is leading crime syndicates to adapt their behaviour.

The Solomon Islands' police commissioner says last week's massive cocaine seizure in the country shows that transnational criminals are stepping up their operations in the Pacific.

A series of similar hauls in Fiji earlier this year prompted experts to speculate drug syndicates would redirect supply routes through other Pacific countries.

Matthew Varley told Dominic Godfrey the region's police are getting better at uncovering them.
