Academic analyses Pacific security issues from Forum

An academic in security studies and Pacific geopolitics says Australia is out of step with Pacific leaders as it tries to step up in the region.

Pacific Island leaders at the recent Forum in Nauru have called on the United States to return to the Paris Agreement saying climate change is the single greatest threat to the livelihood, security and wellbeing of Pacific people.

The Prime Minister of Tuvalu, Enele Sopoanga, says the Pacific leaders will not tone down their message to the United States on climate change implying Australia had wanted a more dilute signal to the US.

Jenny Meyer spoke with Dr Anna Powles from Massey University's Centre for Defence and Security about the Forum and began by asking her about the United States' response to the leaders' climate call.
