Arresting the decline of NZ's Tongan speakers

Students at an Auckland school are hoping to help reverse the declining rate of Tongan speakers in New Zealand.

Tongans are the country's third largest Pacific group, and just over half of them are able to speak the language.

Westlake Girls High School, on the affluent North Shore, has 2200 students. Only 1 percent of them are Tongan.

But this week, its students have rallied to celebrate Tongan language week and promote Tongan culture.
