The American based Samoan actor, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, has announced he's been cast to play Hawaii's King Kamehameha in an upcoming Hollywood film.

King Kamehameha is well renowned as the founder and first ruler of the Kingdom Hawaii, uniting the warring Hawaiian Islands.

Dwayne Johnson made the announcement on his social media midweek, saying it's a dream role and filming is due to start in 2020.

While his selection to cast him has raised some eyebrows among native Hawaiians, local film maker Hinaleimoana Wong-Kalu, told Sara Vui-Talitu why he is a great choice.
