From , 3:05 pm on 27 August 2018

Evacuations are under way after a volcano erupted on Papua New Guinea's Manam Island, with lava flow and ash posing a danger to residents.

The volcano, which is one of the country's most active, erupted in the early hours of Saturday, sending an ash cloud some 15 kilometres into the air.

Government ships have been sent to evacuate residents from the island, which is in Madang province.

PNG journalist at EMTV, Scott Waide, told Amelia Langford the eruption blanketed the whole island in ash.
