Anger in Cooks at planned foreshore development

From , 3:02 pm on 13 July 2018

There is growing opposition in the Cook Islands to a house planned by a foreign developer on a culturally and environmentally significant part of the island of Rarotonga.

The land, at Avana Point was a key site in ancient Polynesian voyaging around the Pacific.

It is also considered environmentally fragile.

An online petition protesting the development has already attracted the support of 1100 people, the Cook Islands Voyaging Society and environmental group Te Ipukarea Society.

Te Ipukarea's Liam Kokaua told Don Wiseman more apart the development and the opposition.
