Cook Islands Party challenges result of Ngatangiia constituency

From , 5:02 am on 12 July 2018

The Cook Islands Party has filed a petition challenging a constituency result in last month's election.

The CIP's Mark Brown says his party's petition is for the Ngatangiia seat his party lost to the Democratic Party by about 40 votes.

The CIP formed a coalition last week with the two independents and a One Cook Islands candidate, and the trio were sworn in as cabinet ministers last Friday.

The coalition will remain a caretaker government until the next parliamentary sitting, which cannot happen until all the the petition results are known.

Mark Brown told Sara Vui-Talitu the plan now is to keep forging ahead after the prime minister Henry Puna announced cabinet portfolios this week.
