American Samoa citizenship case aims for Supreme Court hearing

From , 3:01 pm on 28 June 2018

The Citizenship Clause of the United States Constitution provides that "All persons born... in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens."

A Washington State based lawyer argues that denying automatic US citizenship to those born in American Samoa is unconstitutional.

Leiataua Charles Ala'ilima spoke with Dominic Godfrey and says that when the US acquired American Samoa in 1900, US jurisdiction came into force and it became part of the US.
