A new study aims to find out whether Pacific-style care for the elderly among New Zealand's Pasifika people is under threat.

Different generations caring for each other under one roof is traditional among Pacific people but it's thought this could be changing as Pacific families in New Zealand adapt to pressures like long working hours and high living costs.

Siautu Alefaio from Massey's School of Psychology is leading the research and she told Wallace Chapman the study will explore the experiences, challenges and needs of Pasifika families caring for matua.
