RAE FINLAY: Targetted at visitors that are in Niue, potential visitors so before they come to Niue it's an opportunity for them to do a little bit of research about what's on offer as far as accommodation or activities and tours. And the ability for them to be able to link with those businesses and pre-book before they arrive in Niue. And really it's a little information directory that they can have in their pocket with them while they're travelling around the island. And lots of good tools on there for them to use as well. With the visitors coming to Niue and swimming, a lot of the destinations for swimming, some are better at high tide, some are better at low tide, it's actually got the tides in there. And weather those sorts of things. So targetted at locals as a source of information and a pocket directory but also at visitors, before they come and also once they're in Niue.
JENNY
MEYER: How long has it been up and running for?
RF: We launched last week and it provides great analytics, through google analytics, so we can see where the downloads of the app have taken place. And it's interesting to see that people in just about every continent there's been some downloads so far, which is great. The predominent areas for downloading have been New Zealand and Australia, we can see even within New Zealand what areas, Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington etc. we can see where downloads have occurred.
JM: Who developed the app, who's behind it?
RF: The Niue Chamber of Commerce has done it to support our private sector businesses and we worked with a company in New Zealand called GoVisit Limited who have developed destination apps for a number of other destinations around New Zealand and this is their first one that they've done off shore.
JM: Have you had any hitches or challenges that you've faced?
RF: No we did a soft launch initially which gave us the opportunity to actually test it on a live platform but since we launched it last week, we've had great feedback about the app. That it's very intuitive and user friendly. You know it gives us the opportunity too to build on it in the future. We can up date it ourselves which you would know, from printing brochures or tourism booklets, the minute you print it, it can be out of date. So the wonderful thing with the app is we can actually up date it ourselves. So businesses in Niue can let us know if they've got any changes particularly with seasonal hours those sorts of things. Special promotions they might be running, they can advise us the information and we can up date the app. It's virtually a live up date, all you need to do is refresh your app and you've got the latest information in there.
