NZ university to increase Pacific students

From , 4:03 am on 7 June 2018

A New Zealand university is hoping to boost its numbers of Pacific students and academics through a range of initiatives.

Pasifika people rank low on the list of those in New Zealand with university qualifications, according to the Ministry of Education, although the number studying is rising.

Seven percent of Waikato University's student population is Pasifika and it's trying to capitalise on these growing numbers.

The university's Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Robyn Longhurst, told Jamie Tahana they've brought in a plan to try and attract more Pasifika students, but also to keep them studying.
