Academic outlines fears of aid "securitisation" in Pacific

A Pacific defence and security scholar says it's a worry that security concerns seem to underlie Australia's aid priorities in the Pacific.

Australia has announced a boost in aid to the region including money for a regional security college and funds for a highspeed internet cable to Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands.

Massey University's Anna Powles told Sally Round underlying both Australia and New Zealand's increase in aid funding is concern about China and an increasingly contested regional order.
