Fiji's Shadow Minister for Health and Medical Services says a recent hospital report has him concerned about a spike in the number of babies dying in medical facilities.

According to reports, 313 babies under the age of one have died in the last two years in health centres and hospitals and the Health Ministry is consulting the affected families.

Opposition MP Anare Vadei (vahn-day) told Jenny Meyer he's asked the Minister of Health, Rosy Akbar, to investigate the issue and spell out what strategies she is putting in place to address the problem.
