Norfolk Island has launched a legal challenge at the United Nations, claiming Australia has breached the International Ccovenant on Civil and Political Rights.

This follows Canberra's scrapping of the islands autonomy in July 2016.

The case is being brought the Norfolk Council of Elders and is headed by prominent British human rights lawyer, Geoffrey Robertson QC.

Don Wiseman spoke with Andre Nobbs who told him the Human Rights Committee of the UNHCR is being asked to consider Australia's alleged breaches.
