Monash University's World Mosquito Programme says its research will help island countries to eliminate the threat of dengue and other mosquito borne diseases.

The not for profit WMP has just signed a deal with the New Caledonia Government, the City of Noumea and the Institute Pasteur to undertake research in the territory.

The WMP director of impact assessment, Professor Cameron Simmons, says it is an important step toward better protecting communities from mosquito-borne viruses.

He told Don Wiseman how they plan to do it.
