One dead in Vanuatu as damage counted from Hola

Vanuatu's National Disaster Management Office says there are reports one person in Pentecost has died during cyclone Hola and two others severely injured.

And a Red Cross volunteer on northwest Malekula says hundreds of families have had their homes and crops damaged as Cyclone Hola passed directly over Malekula and are now struggling to cope in heavy rain without adequate shelter or food.

The Disaster Office head Peter Korisa, told Jenny Meyer on Friday Hola was intense and took 24 hours to pass over the northern half of the Vanuatu Islands so he is expecting assessments will reveal a severe impact once communication is re-established.
