Norfolk group says island in the throes of a crisis

From , 6:04 am on 9 March 2018

new group in Norfolk Island is making the case that Australia taking direct control of the island has precipitated an economic and social crisis.

In July 2016 Australia took control of the island which up until that point had enjoyed many years of political and economic autonomy.

The Norfolk United Group brings together business operators, the democracy advocates and the council of elders to make the point that the island is suffering as business declines and costs soar.

A spokesperson, Rael Donde, from the Norfolk Island Accommodation and Tourism Association told Don Wiseman they will be asking Canberra to admit their moves have failed the island.
