Vanuatu's Joe Natuman pleads guilty to obstruction charge

From , 4:03 pm on 28 February 2018

The Deputy Prime Minister of Vanuatu, Joe Natuman, has pleaded guilty to obstructing or interfering with the execution of a criminal process.

Mr Natuman, then the prime minister of Vanuatu, instructed his then police commissioner, Aru Maralau, to stop an investigation into a mutiny case involving senior police officers.

Mr Natuman has previously said his actions were intended in the best interests of the force - to unite rather than divide it.

Don Wiseman asked the principal of TNC Pacific Consulting, Tess Newton-Cain, if she was surprised by Mr Natuman's move.
