The head of Tonga's National Emergency Management Office, Leveni Aho, says his staff have only been able to make a general assessment of the destruction caused by Cyclone Gita.
Gita blew through Tongatapu and Eua on Monday night, wrecking buildings, uprooting trees and destroying food gardens.
