Niue looks to NZ to help restore infrastructure

From , 6:03 am on 9 February 2018

A former Niue diplomat and businessman says successive governments in Niue have failed to put in place proper maintenance programmes for key infrastructure.

The comments from Hima Douglas come as the Niue government approaches the New Zealand government for help to repair the island's ailing roads, water and electricity systems.

The premier Sir Toke Talagi has indicated that in discussions this week he wants to discuss future capital funding, with a focus on infrastructure, such as the power and water systems, and the island's roads.

He said Niue's infrastructure was old and needed replacement.

Don Wiseman asked Mr Douglas how come the island's infrastructure is in such poor repair.
