Papua New Guinea is in the process of having its civil registration system improved and its laws on identity registration updated.
A new initiative by the philanthropic agency Bloomberg Data is looking into how they can link the national ID system with the civil registration system as well as making registration of births, deaths and marriages more accessible.
The newly established Pacific Civil Registrars Network is also involved and its chair Jeff Montgomery spoke with Sela Jane Hopgood about how they are working with Pacific countries to also improve their laws around civil registrations.
