A women's rights advocate in Tonga says she's aiming to allay community fears about the kingdom ratifying international human rights conventions.

Tonga's human rights record was under scrutiny last week at the UN Human Rights Council, part of the Universal Periodic Review of member countries.

Many nations expressed concern the kingdom still hadn't ratified agreements like the Convention Against Torture and the Convention for the Elimination of all Forms Discrimination Against Women known as CEDAW.

The director of Tonga's Women and Children Crisis Centre's 'Ofa Guttenbeil-Likiliki told Sara Vui-Talitu about public misperceptions discouraging ratification, and ways Tonga could better handle human rights violations.
