Academic says Tokelauan civil servants treated unjustly

An academic says the unjustified sacking of two Tokealauan public servants puts the spot light on the performance of the atolls' leaders.

Massey University Pasifika Centre director, Malakai Koloamatangi says it also raises questions about New Zealand's commitment and involvement in its last colony.

He was speaking after the sacking of senior public servants, Jovilisi Suveinakama and Heto Puka, over their involvement in the controversial purchase of two helicopters.

Bur Dr Koloamatangi told Don Wiseman they appear to be scapegoats for a decision that must have come from Tokelau's political leaders.
