Untapped potential for PNG produce sector

From , 5:01 am on 23 October 2017

Papua New Guinea's Fresh Produce Development Agency says commercial farming has great potential that is not being realised.

The government-funded agency says the PNG imports a great deal of its produce, despite an abundance of fertile land and farmers who want to make an income on top of subsistence farming.

The agency's general manager, Mark Worinu, says efforts are being made to help farmers with their business skills to break into the market.

However, he told Jamie Tahana a lot more needs to be done - and the agency doesn't have the resources.
