Fiji cane growing assistance called a 'miserable failure'

An official with the Fiji opposition National Federation Party says the sugarcane planting programme being implemented by the Ministry of Sugar is a 'miserable failure'.

The party's general secretary, Jaganath Sami, says the Fiji Sugar Corporation has already downsized this year's expected crop to 1.8 million tonnes from 2.1 million tonnes and he expects it to come down further.

Mr Sami told Don Wiseman this is partly down to a replanting assistance package that doesn't work.
