Vanuatu's Tanna Island coffee producers certified organic

From , 5:02 am on 25 September 2017

Over a thousand coffee farmers on Vanuatu's Tanna Island were certified as organic growers last week in a move that's bolstered the local economy.

Coffee production on Tanna was devastated by Cyclone Pam two years ago which destroyed 330,000 trees.

A local coffee company owner says there are now 186 thousand trees back in production.

The organic certification of these trees comes via the Pacific Community's Organic Pasifika service.

Tanna Coffee's Terry Adlington told Dominic Godfrey the island's organic volcanic soil has been producing coffee for 157 years.
