Coastguard New Zealand says a new custom built $US265 thousand dedicated search and rescue vessel will be a game changer for Niue.
CEO Patrick Holmes says his team has been training three Niuean crew in search and rescue techniques on the new boat this week in Christchurch.
He told Jenny Meyer maritime safety is a huge issue in the Pacific and currently people in trouble at sea are reliant on random vessels who can assist at the time or long distance airforce deployment.
