Solomons' courts seek financial autonomy post-RAMSI

From , 5:03 am on 10 July 2017

Solomon Islands' chief justice Sir Albert Palmer says it is crucial that the judiciary is given financial autonomy if it is to build on the gains made through the 14 year partnership with the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands.

The mission which departed the country last week has helped rebuild and strengthen court systems in the country which were crippled by an ethnic conflict which raged from 1998 to 2000 followed by a period of lawlessness that saw the nation held ransom by armed thugs up until 2003.

Sir Albert told Koroi Hawkins these gains can only be built on if the judiciary is given full control of its budgetary allocations.
