Drones offer possible service option for Vanuatu

From , 4:04 pm on 27 March 2017

In a few years, remote outer islands in Vanuatu could have vaccines and other medical supplies delivered rapidly - by drone.

Currently, if a health centre needs to be restocked, someone has to jump on a boat and sail across open ocean to find supplies.

But the government, along with the United Nations children's agency UNICEF, is investigating the possibility of using drone technology to create a faster, more reliable service.

UNICEF's Pacific representative, Sheldon Yett, told Jamie Tahana the idea is in its infancy and the technology may not yet be there, but if it is, it could be revolutionary.
