JOANNE ZOLOVEKE: I think they picked them up so that they can join, each team has participants on each sector education, health, stuff like that so I think they are now mobilising themselves around the island of Makira they've identified which teams take which wards so they are actually doing that right now.
KOROI HAWKINS: Has there been any evaluation on the damage? Are there any numbers on how many people are affected and the like?
JZ: That will depend on when we get information back from the teams.
KH: What are these teams carrying with them? Are they taking immediate emergency supplies?
JZ: Yeah, generally from us, from the Red Cross, we've given them tarps, shelter kits, and collapsible 10L collapsible containers water containers. We've also put what we call a NOMAD which is a water purifying machine on board the patrol boat and that will be stationed at Tetere. If you look at the map of the southern coast of Makira we will station it there.
KH: Right and the idea is to produce freshwater and distribute it around the coast is that it?
JZ: Yes around that coast.
KH: And that is using saltwater or what sort of water are you using for that?
JZ: No we will find a source, the team will find a source of water close to where they want it stationed and they will set up the equipment there and start pumping water. Now because there is lack of road we are expecting that people will use these 10L containers and have them refilled or whatever containers they have and then transport it back to there [villages?]
KH: Right
JZ: And also that NDMO has canoes [OBM powered banana boats] that they have also deployed so these canoes will probably be 10 of them. These canoes will be used to help deliver containers of water to the villages close by.
KH: And still so far there are no casualties and no injuries reported from this?
JZ: Not that we know of there is no casualties not reported back yet. But I think it still stand that there is no casualties.
KH: And the second tremor was that Saturday morning was it? The 6.9 did..
JZ: Yes on Saturday morning.
KH: Did that cause any additional damage that you are aware of?
JZ: Well that is I think the full detailed reports will come later and then we should know whether there were further structural damages from that second quake.
