Nauru an island of despair - Amnesty International

From , 6:04 am on 18 October 2016

The human rights organisation, Amnesty International, says refugees and asylum seekers on Nauru face a deliberate and systematic regime of neglect and cruelty.

More than 1100 people are still being held on the island as part of Australia's scheme to house people arriving by boat at remote offshore detention facilities.

Amnesty's latest report, 'Island of Despair' is based on first hand reports compiled by its international researcher, Anna Neistat, earlier this year.

Amnesty New Zealand's executive director Grant Bayldon told Don Wiseman what Anna Neistat found on the island.
