Hip hop artist keeps Tongan language alive

From , 1:00 pm on 9 September 2016

A Tongan born Kiwi hip hop artist is trying to keep Tongan language alive for Tongan youth.

The 2013 census showed over 60,000 Tongans living in New Zealand and this week the country celebrated Tongan language.

Currently there are more Tongan people born in New Zealand than there are in Tongan which has led to a growing number of young Tongans who are struggling to speak the language.

Graphic Designer, Producer and Actor are just some of the creative titles Rizvan Tu'itahi holds.

He spoke to Indira Stewart about how he uses those platforms to promote the culture he was born into.
