Two assistant police commissioners have resigned in Samoa following parliament's disestablishment of their roles.
Fauono Talalelei Tapu and Leiataua Fata Aviga Salale tendered their resignations earlier this week.
The Fono has ordered that only a single deputy commissioner is needed to support the commissioner, Fuiavailili Egon Keil.
Our correspondent in Samoa Autagavaia Tipi Autagavaia said the assistant commissioners' resignations are effective from the 25th of August to coincide with new legislation.
"The two assistant commissioners were advised by the government to tender their resignations and have their two more years still remaining of their three year contracts paid in full," he said.
Autagavaia said police would advertise to fill the vacancy created by the resignations.
