Russia's Defence Minister is expected to visit Fiji early next year.
The visit was discussed at a meeting between Fiji's Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama and Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the United Nations at the weekend.
Fiji's Ministry of Information says the two ministers reviewed the bilateral relations between Fiji and Russia and expressed satisfaction with the steady progress being made in the relationship between the two nations.
It says the upcoming attendance of eight Fijian diplomats and military officers at the Russian Service Institute in Moscow formed a key part of the discussions.
They also discussed Russia's offer of university education opportunities for Fiji and other Pacific Island countries.
