A New Zealand road building company, McConnell Dowell, is appealing to the public in American Samoa for information that would help police find vandals who damaged valuable equipment over the weekend.

On Saturday night, most of the electrical wiring on heavy equipment parked in the Leone area on Tutuila was cut.

The machines, excavators and a loader were to be used for a road improvements in the area.

McConnell's Colin Stewart says he believes the aim of the vandalism was to delay its work and the company will have to put back the project.
