A lawyer in American Samoa has been fined by the High Court for contempt.

Samoa News reports that attorney Mark Ude was fined after failing to provide documents in a lawsuit he filed against the then Fire Chief Cliff O'Brien and the American Samoa Government.

He represented a party who were inside a vehicle that was hit by Mr O'Brien who was driving a government vehicle.

The contempt of court followed after Mr Ude failed to produce medical and psychiatric bills, as well as physical therapy bills for all services that were provided for the plaintiffs.

The court found Mr Ude in contempt and sentenced him to a fine of 500 US dollars.
