Samoa's Electric Power Corporation has issued conservation measures for the use of electricity around the country because of decreasing water levels at its hydropower plants due to limited rainfall.

The corporation is also asking consumers who have standby generators to use them for at least eight hours a day, from 9 to 5 in the evening and to turn off lights and air conditioning if houses and offices are not being used.

The corporation says the move is a counter measure to to avoid island wide rationing due to the dried up water resources.
