Fiji women's group fears impact of clamp on unions

The Fiji Women's Rights Movement says the Essential National Industries Decree will exacerbate already poor working conditions for women.

The movement's executive director, Virisila Buadromo, says they're opposed to any decree that compromises women's employment rights.

She says the decree breaches workers' human rights as it compromises their ability to bargain on a level playing field and removes independent grievance processes.

Ms Buadromo says an erosion of these fundamental rights and freedoms will put workers, especially disadvantaged women, at risk of exploitation and unfair treatment.
