7:18 pm on 24 January 2008

The American Samoan governor, Togiola Tulafono, has been discharged from the Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu.

A statement from the Governor's Office says the governor walked out of the hospital without assistance and in very good spirits.

Last week, he was flown to Hawaii on a special aircraft after spending 10 days at the LBJ hospital in Pago Pago.

The governor had an appendectomy on January the 6th and a second operation a week later.

He is to have follow-up checks in Honolulu before returning to American Samoa at a date yet to be decided.
