New Caledonian dentists protest against changed reimbursement

Dentists in New Caledonia have taken to the streets in a protest against changes to the reimbursements from the public health insurance.

About 50 dentists gathered outside the seat of the local government because of its decision to stop linking payouts to the fees paid in France.

An agreement was in place in 2001 to link insurance payouts to dentist fees as they are in France.

However, in 2003 the local government severed that link and last year the dentists failed to get the increments secured by their colleagues in France.
