People of Fiji's Tavua province to discuss complaints against Tui Tavua

9:24 am on 28 March 2007

People of the province of Tavua in Fiji's western division are meeting today to discuss complaints against their chief and chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs, Ratu Ovini Bokini.

The Fiji-Live website reports that a delegation presented documents to deputy military commander Captain Esala Teleni yesterday, stating their grievances against the chief.

The website reports that the kingmakers of the Tui Tavua's chiefly household have told the Anti-Corruption Unit, set up by the interim regime, that it wants Ratu Ovini investigated for alleged abuse of traditional authority.

Ratu Ovini says he has not received a copy of the written complaint and would not respond to the allegations.
