Woes with American Samoa money transfers

Western Union New Zealand has stepped in to help alleviate a cash flow problem in American Samoa that forced one of its agents to suspend the issuance of incoming money transfers.

Phoenix Corporation, which operates the Western Union branches at the Fagatogo and in Nuuuli, says after discussions with the New Zealand office they have agreed to help.

The corporation says there's has been a big surge in money transfers since a Money Gram agency closed down.
