Fiji people implicated by army man's statement 'willing to kill'

6:12 am on 30 April 2005

A senior Fiji military officer is reported to have warned that those implicated in the coup by the police statement given by Lt Col Viliame Seruvakula are willing to kill.

Fiji TV, which carried the report, hasn't named the officer.

But it quotes him as saying those named in the statement are dangerous.

He says they are prominent people who hold senior public and private positions, and would be willing to kill to protect their names.

The military commander, Commodore Bainimarama, has chosen not to comment on the warning issued by one of his officers.
