American Samoa's delegate to the US Congress, Faleomavaega Eni Hunkin, is calling for more support to develop tourism in the territory.

The Congressman was commenting before the start of a business investment conference in Los Angeles.

Faleomavaega says developing tourism will require support from the government in American Samoa to overcome obstacles.

"But then with some basic infrastructure problems with the hotels to make American Samoa more attractive for tourism, just want to state the fact other island states are also competing for the same ministry. So it's not that easy and not that simple."

The Department of Interior, which is sponsoring the business conference, hopes to promote investments and attract more visitors to American Samoa.

The Tourism Office budget for the fiscal year 2005 is 373,500 US dollars.
