Police in Papua New Guinea's Eastern Highlands province are investigating reports of a riot involving nearly 200 people in the town of Kainantu.
A delegation from the provincial capital, Goroka, is travelling to the town this afternoon.
All businesses in the town were closed yesterday after a group of men reportedly started damaging shop fronts, looting and turning vehicles over.
Police say the trouble appears to have started between a group from Wabag and a group of locals.
The dispute is reported to be over a relationship between a boy and a girl from each area.
