Four believe murdered in Fiji

6:40 pm on 9 December 2003

Four people have been found dead in what Fiji police believe is a robbery gone wrong.

Radio Fiji reports that the bloodstained bodies of the four were found at Wavuwavu, an isolated spot between the western towns of Ba and Tavua this morning.

The four included two indigenous Fijian women, a Fijian man and an Indo-Fijian man.

Police believe the four went to the isolated drinking spot last night and were attacked with heavy objects like iron bars.

The murders have shocked the residents of Ba with the mayor, Praveen Bala, warning that people should not go to such spots for drinking parties.

Radio Fiji says the director of criminal investigations, Emosi Vunisa, has travelled to Ba to head police enquiries.
