Solomons oppositions vows not to challenge government

11:49 am on 31 October 2003

The Solomon Islands opposition leader has ruled out a motion of no confidence in the Government of Sir Allen Kemakeza when Parliament meets from next Thursday.

John Martin Garo says rumours of plans to topple the government have come from individuals and groups with agendas other than the interests of the people of Solomon Islands.

He says the opposition recognizes the need for political stability in aperiod he calls a cross-road in Solomons history.

Mr Garo says a motion of no confidence could seriously undermine or reverse the successes of the RAMSI intervention.

The Prime Minister says the opposition leader is showing mature leadership.
