The tiny island of Niue is sending 120 athletes, or the equivalent of 8 percent of its population, to the South Pacific Games starting next week in Suva.
Half the athletes will come from the island's current resident population of around 1300 with the rest from among Niueans living in other countries.
They will compete in athletics, bodybuilding, boxing, clay shooting, lawn bowls, netball, outrigger canoeing, powerlifting, rugby sevens, touch rugby, table tennis and weightlifting.
The Niue government has contributed around 15 thousand US dollars for the athletes travel expenses, but the rest has been raised by the team members themselves.
